The System
WHEN GRAVITY WORKS

If the building drains downhill to the sewer main with enough fall, a gravity lateral is the simplest and longest-lasting system — no pumps, no power, no alarms.

Grade Is Everything

Gravity sewer has to keep a steady downhill slope from the building to the tie-in — typically 1/4″ per foot (2%) for a 4″ building sewer, with code allowing less in some larger sizes. We confirm the invert depth at the main and the building before we dig.

Grade Checked Before We Dig

When It Won’t Work

If the building sits at or below the sewer, or the run is too long to hold fall, gravity isn’t an option. That’s when a grinder pump system and force main are the answer.
